In homage to the magnificent men and machines who took part in those early Le Mans endurance races during the 1920s and 1930s at the Circuit de la Sarthe the shape and form of this wooden toy is an expression of those beautiful old racing cars that would transit this circuit over 100 times in 24 hours. André Lagache a French racing driver along with René Léonard, won the inaugural 24 Hours of Le Mans. British Capt. J.F. Duff came 4th in a Bentley completing 112 laps of the Circuit de la Sarthe. A wooden toy carefully crafted in solid mahogany (sapele) with oak wheels and hubs – finished with oil and wax to give that tough but soft satin finish. On this wooden toy all of the wheels turn and there are no metal or small parts. The length of the racing car is about 320mm and from hub-to-hum approximately 150mm.
We welcome orders from around the world including holzspielzeug from Germany, jouets bois from France and giocattoli di legno from Italy.
The racing cars are generally made to order and can take 10/14 working days for the oil to dry between coats so please do allow sufficient time if you are selecting the coasters for a birthday or Christmas gift.
